About 420 Houston

2 min read · Written by Houston natives · No paid placements

420 Houston is a visitor's guide to Houston for cannabis-culture travelers and locals, written by a few people who have lived here long enough to have strong opinions about breakfast tacos and the Katy Freeway.

Why this site exists

Search "is Houston 420 friendly" and you get a mess. Some pages make Houston sound like Amsterdam with humidity. Some read like a police pamphlet. A lot of them are really ads for something. None of them sound like an actual person from here talking to a friend who's coming to town.

So we wrote the guide we'd want. The honest legal picture, explained calmly. Then everything that makes this city great for a laid-back trip: the glass culture, the food, the art, the music, the neighborhoods, the weather and how to get around without losing your mind on 610.

Who we are

A small crew of Houston natives. Some of us grew up in the Inner Loop, some out in the suburbs where the strip centers go on forever and the best food is next to a nail salon. We've ridden around to screwed and chopped tapes, waited out hurricanes, eaten crawfish on newspaper-covered tables and spent too many afternoons in the Menil to count.

We keep our names off the site. This isn't about us, and nobody needs our Venmo.

Our editorial standards

  • No paid placements. No business can pay to be on this site or to get a better write-up.
  • No affiliate links. We don't earn a cut from hotels, restaurants, shops or anybody else.
  • We sell nothing. No merch, no products, no "partners."
  • We only name what we're confident about. We name long-running, iconic places that we're confident exist and are still open. When we're not sure, we describe the kind of place instead of guessing. We never invent reviews, prices, addresses or hours.
  • We don't point anyone to cannabis. Texas hasn't legalized it, so we don't tell anyone where to buy or use it here, and we don't promote the black market. We explain the law and leave it there.
  • We write evergreen. No event calendars, no "this weekend," no deals that expire. If it's on this site, it should still be true next year.

Heads up: we're a guide, not lawyers. The Houston cannabis laws page is general information, and laws can change.
